1971 Safari Rally Z – Rally Resuscitation

CARPHOTO-3803

Seeing the iconic original 240Z in racing livery assumes a new dimension when it’s dressed for rally battle. Racing Zs conjure images of low slung and sleek cars shod with racing slicks struggling to keep up traction by way of a high-g turn-not tall standing, battle-scarred examples shod with knobby tires struggling to navigate a rut-ridden back trail. Go into the 1971 Safari Rally Z, a legend on four wheels and winner of your 1973 and 1971 East African Safari Rally races. The existing rally dog has been returned to its former glory from the Nissan Restoration Club, which is a 60-person crew of volunteers from the automaker’s R&D department. The Safari Rally Z’s was bumped to an impressive 215 to 220 horsepower, although the 2.4-liter, SOHC inline six powerplant in production ’71 Z cars were rated at 151 horsepower.
